March 20 — As temperatures rise, some individuals favor consuming raw seafood in their daily lives. However, consuming raw food may pose a risk of parasitic infections, potentially causing severe harm to the individual.

Recently, a 52-year-old man in Hangzhou presented with persistent symptoms of fever, abdominal pain, and occasional coughing for nearly half a month. He had initially suspected influenza and attempted treatment with antipyretics and antibiotics, but to no avail.

After enduring these symptoms for over 20 days, the man finally sought medical attention at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University. Preliminary examinations revealed abnormally elevated eosinophils and significant liver dysfunction.

Imaging results indicated numerous small abscesses in the man's liver, suggesting a possible parasitic infection. An experienced physician suspected parasitic infection.

Further inquiries revealed that the man frequently traveled for work and enjoyed sampling local delicacies, with a particular fondness for raw seafood. He consumed raw seafood almost every time he traveled. Upon further examination, it was discovered that he had contracted three types of parasites: alveolar echinococcosis, pork tapeworm, and Spirometra mansoni.

Physicians explained that these three parasites could invade multiple organ systems, potentially leading to various symptoms. In severe cases, irreversible sequelae and permanent damage may occur.

Following treatment, the man's condition was brought under control. He expressed his remorse and vowed to discontinue the consumption of such foods. s_06cbe26985fa47048045f48c5c5d2995.jpg
